‘Closing the Loop’ wins Vernuftering award 2023
12 May 2023 – On Thursday, May 11, 2023, the winner of De Vernufteling 2023 was announced. Antea Group’s entry ‘Closing the Loop’ was chosen by the jury as the most ingenious and scalable engineering project with social added value.
Closing the Loop is committed to reusing raw materials for viaducts. No less than 70% of existing structures are not sustainably demolished before the end of their technical lifespan. A shame, given the global scarcity of primary raw materials. Closing the Loop is a consortium consisting of Antea Group, Nebest, GBN Group and Strukton Civiel. Read more about Closing the Loop here.
The professional jury rated the winning entry from Antea Group as the highest because of its innovative character, scalability, form of collaboration and social importance. In the jury report, the jury writes: ‘With Closing the Loop, Antea Group is tackling a major social challenge – the replacement of outdated infrastructure – with a constant eye for other social challenges. By designing in a fully circular manner, the need for new raw materials remains limited and that also has a favourable effect on the total CO2 emissions of the project.’
De Vernufteling-award is the election of the most innovative engineering project, organized by Royal NLengineers in collaboration with journal De Ingenieur. The purpose of the Vernufteling is to give recognition and publicity to the work of consultancy and engineering firms.
