Popcorn replaces Polystyrene

Researchers from the University of Göttingen (Germany) developed a polystyrene-like material based on popcorn. It can be used as packaging and insulation material. The technology is based on processes such as those used in the plastics industry. German grain producer Nordgetreide has received a licensing agreement for the commercial use of the process and products for the packaging sector. The German construction company Bachl Group is licensed to use the process to make building insulation.
