Facade panels provide long-term carbon storage

July 23 – 2026 – Researchers have developed façade panels that capture carbon dioxide during production. The building material contains minerals that chemically bind CO₂ from the air, allowing the carbon to remain stored in the material for many years while maintaining its suitability for construction.

The technology could reduce the climate impact of the construction sector. Producing conventional building materials often results in significant greenhouse gas emissions. Materials that permanently store carbon may help offset part of these emissions.

In addition to carbon storage, the panels meet the usual requirements for strength and durability. Researchers believe that such materials could become an important component of climate-friendly construction projects while promoting more efficient use of natural resources.
