September 23, 2024 – Dura Vermeer, Rijkswaterstaat, and Blade-Made signed an agreement on September 23 to install a wind turbine blade noise barrier along the A58. A test version of the noise barrier, made from repurposed wind turbine blades, will be placed on Rijkswaterstaat’s innovation strip ‘Innova58.’ This ´Blade Barrier´ is designed by Blade-Made, a company whose mission is to recycle wind turbine blades that are no longer in use and repurpose them as secondary building materials, thus significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
The Blade Barrier aligns with Blade-Made’s strategy of giving as many wind turbine blades as possible a second life. In addition to Rijkswaterstaat, Dura Vermeer is also a partner in this project. The partnership was officially launched when the involved parties signed one of the blades that will be used in the Blade Barrier.
The Blade Barrier will remain along the A58 until the end of 2026. During this period, it will be tested for its acoustic performance, CO2 impact, and manufacturability.
