Climate-friendly renovations using straw and hemp
March 21, 2024 – Renovating buildings to improve their energy efficiency is a crucial step towards Switzerland achieving its climate targets. A team of ETH researchers and researchers from other universities clearly confirms that thermal insulation and heating replacement should be key elements of energy-efficient renovations. They developed a model that uses AI to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and costs and also takes into account uncertainties such as future climate and price developments. With bio-based building materials such as straw or hemp, significantly more greenhouse gas emissions can be saved in insulation compared to today.
