March 25 – The European Commission has, for the first time, identified a list of 47 strategic projects to increase domestic strategic raw material capacity. The aim is to strengthen Europe’s raw material value chain and rethink sources. According to the EC, these new strategic projects are an important step in the implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), which aims to ensure that European extraction, processing, and recycling of strategic raw materials will meet 10 percent, 40 percent, and 25 percent of European demand by 2030, respectively.
These new strategic projects should significantly contribute to Europe’s green and digital transitions, while also supporting the European defense and aerospace industries.
The 47 strategic projects are expected to involve an investment of €22.5 billion.
