Glass award 2019
The Poortgebouw Hoog Catharijne in Utrecht, a project of Saint-Gobain Gevelbouw, has won the Glas Award 2019. The award ceremony took place on 8 February, during the Bouwbeurs 2019 in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht.
Saint-Gobain Glassolutions Gevelbouw, in collaboration with façade builder Blitta from Venray, produced and supplied the glazing for the facades of the Poortgebouw, the Stadskamer, the Bruggebouw and the Entreegebouw of the renewed Hoog-Catharijne in Utrecht. The Poortgebouw stands out for its colour scheme and its double-curved shapes. The cold curved, coloured insulating glass is iconic.
The glazing of the Poortgebouw consists of 1,700 panes, each with a unique dimension and a unique, non-cylindrical bend.
In the glazing and the panels, deformations of up to 10 centimetres could be achieved through the integral fastening system. In addition, the glass manufacturer has laminated both the single, colour-enamelled windows and the insulating and sun-resistant windows for extra safety.
The total project comprises 9,000 m² of glass and consists of solar control insulating glass SGG COOL-LITE SKN165, high-efficiency glass SGG CLIMAPLUS XN and SGG EMALIT, tempered and colour enamelled glass.
