How do you make an endlessly rechargeable battery?
November 11, 2024 – Imagine a future where storing renewable energy becomes so efficient and affordable that we can easily rely on solar or wind power, even when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing. This is the potential of redox flow batteries (RFBs), a technology that could transform how energy is stored and managed. Each month, Radboud University at Nijmegen takes visitors to its website behind the scenes of the Faculty of Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science to highlight such socially relevant research. This month focused on energy storage and, in particular, the key role that RFBs could play in the transition from fossil fuels to more sustainable systems. In this shift, redox flow batteries come into play, promising large-scale, safe, and cost-effective energy storage solutions.
