New method better predicts lifetime of zinc cast parts

14 October 2025 – Fraunhofer LBF developed a method that predicts the lifetime of zinc die-cast parts more accurately. It considers material behavior, casting conditions and the size and shape of components. Tests show that modern zinc alloys can handle repeated mechanical loads, making them suitable for parts in machines and vehicles. The method helps engineers set safe limits and design lighter, more durable components. The institute is working these findings into guidelines so industry can apply them easily.
