February 7, 2025 – Epoxy resins are used in coatings and adhesives for a wide range of well-known applications, in construction, engineering, and manufacturing. However, they are notoriously difficult to recycle. A team of scientists from the University of Tokyo now claim to have developed a method for the first time to do just that. The trick lies in a new catalyst.

The results of the research were published in Nature Communications on February 6 under the title ‘Bimetallic synergy in supported Ni–Pd catalyst for selective hydrogenolysis of C–O bonds in epoxy resins.’
