Three-dimensional, coloured facade elements made of metal

Prototype in the shape of a fish to demonstrate the technological and aesthetic possibilities of the new facade elements

February 6, 2025 – A facade determines the first impression of a building. Is it worth taking a closer look? Are there elements that distinguish it from its (built) surroundings? Even small design accents can make the difference between ‘attractive’ and ‘unattractive’. Fraunhofer IWU now claims to have come up with a solution for architects and builders who are looking for equally attractive and cost-effective options: striking facade elements with reliefs that have virtually unlimited shape and colour possibilities that do not require expensive moulding tools.

Fraunhofer IWU, together with facade builder Wirth & Co. GmbH and coating specialist WOBEK-Design GmbH, has now developed a prototype in the shape of a fish to demonstrate the technological and aesthetic possibilities.
