September 25, 2025 – During the 14th International Architecture Biennale in São Paulo, the Swiss research institute EPFL presented a pavilion that combines two innovative building materials: textile-reinforced concrete and LC3 cement. LC3, made of limestone and calcined clay, reduces CO₂ emissions by requiring less clinker. Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC) replaces steel reinforcement with fiber mesh, enabling sleek and strong forms. The pavilion demonstrates the practical application of these materials while simultaneously contributing to more sustainable construction. According to EPFL, the concept is particularly interesting for southern countries, where local raw materials are available and affordable construction solutions are needed.
