Wageningen starts research into sustainable solar fuel

November 1, 2024 – Wageningen researchers have today started a major project (SUN-PERFORM) to make sustainable fuels from oil from algae. The scientists use synthetic biology and nanotechnology to enable algae to capture light more efficiently for photosynthesis. The project received 4 million euros from Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation funding programme. Of this, 1.5 million euros will go to Wageningen University & Research (WUR).
